I’ve been seeing a lot of repeated questions being asked every day so an updated FAQ/Megathread to address all of those questions will be detailed here. If we are missing something, please feel free to let us know and we will add it. We will try to edit this posting as more information becomes available. Keep in mind the official Bitcoin Private Support portal has now been launched. We have a live chat feature to chat with support, as well as a knowledge base. Please visit the portal at support.btcprivate.org and use the knowledge base’s search function before asking other users. Snapshot/Fork FAQ
When is the snapshot date? Snapshot date will take place on February 28th 2018. The exact moment the snapshot will be taken WILL NOT be announced as a TIME, rather it will be announced as a specific block height. Whatever time happens to be when the block height occurs is whatever time the snapshot is taken. This is to address users who are asking for a specific time or time zone. Once the block height has been mined, the snapshot would have been successfully completed instantly. Users can choose to wait until the NEXT block after the snapshot block has been mined for peace of mind. Once again, the exact block height has not been announced yet. We can only estimate the exact block height as we get closer to the snapshot date. Announcements will come via posts on Reddit, Discord, TwitteFacebook, Telegram and the official BitcoinPrivate Twitter account which is the primary source of all official announcements.
Why can't we announce a block height instead? Why did we choose to announce a date? Block height is not announced for a reason. Keep in mind this is a DOUBLE FORK. BTC and ZCL. 2 Block heights need to be announced. It's impossible to determine the exact block heights so far away from the snapshot date, because BTC and ZCL both have different block time intervals, and the total hashing power of the entire network of BTC and ZCL are changing so rapidly that it is extremely hard to determine a block height in advance, so we decided to pick a date for when we expect the snapshot block to occur instead. We need to determine the exact moment both block heights of BTC and ZCL will coincide in order to get an accurate and successful snapshot. Also, do not forget that 2 simulated snapshot runs have already been completed and validated by the team some time ago, so the process has already been proven.
When is the Hard fork date? The Hard fork will occur approximately 2 days after the snapshot, on March 2nd, 2018.
Is the snapshot on the 28th for ZClassic or for Bitcoin? The snapshot will be taken simultaneously for both ZCL and BTC. Block heights will be announced for both.
Do I need to hold my ZCL until the snapshot or fork? Snapshot. As soon as the snapshot occurs you are free to do whatever you like with your ZCL and you will still receive your BTCP.
What will happen to ZCL after the Bitcoin Private Fork? Current ZClassic's wallet server nodes (Electrum) will still continue to be supported after the fork, and the core dev team will be actively supporting BTCP, whereas the community can choose to further support development for ZCL.
How does Bitcoin Private rewards/claims work? BTCP Coins will be distributed on a 1:1 ratio. Example: (1 ZCL = 1 BTCP.) (1 Bitcoin = 1 BTCP.) (1 ZCL & 0.5 BTC = 1.5 BTCP.) The total combined amount of ZCL and BTC you own at the time of the snapshot will grant you eligibility to claim the same combined amount in Bitcoin Private. You do NOT need to hold a full amount of a coin. You can own partial amounts of ZCL/BTC.
Do I have to store my ZCL in transparent addresses or private addresses to participate in the fork? Any kind of address will be supported through the fork. However, as of Feb. 13, the ZCL electrum wallet only supports transparent addresses.
Are Segwit-enabled wallet addresses for Bitcoin (BTC) supported for the fork? We have confirmation that BTC being held on Segwit enabled addresses WILL BE supported through the fork.
How do I claim my BTCP? More information will become available as we get closer to the snapshot date. An official dedicated guide will be released. In summary, users will need to export a copy of their private key for the corresponding wallet/wallet addresses that hold their ZCL funds at the time of the snapshot. Users can then take the private key and import it into the Bitcoin Private Electrum wallet once it is released in order to claim their BTCP coins. The same goes for Bitcoin holders. **In case exchange(es) support will be announced, users will not need to do anything. The exchanges will automatically credit your account with BTCP. This may vary, so again, please stay tuned for official news regarding this.
BTCP/ZCL Exchange and Wallet Support
Which exchanges will support the fork? The team CANNOT talk about exchange support at this time. Once the support is announced, we will let users know ASAP. All we can say is that the BTCP team has already applied to Binance, as posted on BTCP's Twitter. This is the only thing we can discuss. Binance strictly forbids teams from disclosing IF or WHEN/DATE they will list on Binance. But they allow teams to announce that they HAVE applied for listing, to ease the urge to talk about it. See the official tweet from the CEO of binance. Please do not spam and repeatedly ask this question. News will come as time passes.
Is Bitcoin Private supported by LedgeTrezor Hardware wallets? Currently it is not supported yet because of a technical implementation that the team has not worked on yet because it doesn't take priority. However, the team will be working on BTCP with regards to hardware wallets after the fork, so stay tuned for announcements.
When is the Bitcoin Private wallet being released? Currently the Bitcoin Private Electrum wallet is being developed and rigorously tested by the team. We expect the BTCP Electrum wallet beta to be released slightly before or slightly after the fork occurs. Stay tuned for news.
What other wallets will support Bitcoin Private? The Bitcoin Private Electrum wallet will serve as the “Lite-Client” without having to download the entire blockchain. The team will be working on a GUI version of the BTCP wallet (similar to the java based ZClassic Swing wallet) shortly after the fork. More announcements to come in the future. Coinomi will also support Bitcoin Private.
Issues withdrawing from Cryptopia exchange? As of the week of February 13th 2018, users are reporting issues regarding withdrawing ZCL from Cryptopia. Cryptopia’s coininfo page is showing 0 connections/nodes available. The BTCP team has already tweeted, emailed, called and left voicemails to Cryptopia reaching out to help. It is up to Cryptopia to handle things on their part now. Stay tuned for news regarding this. We have made a separate post addressing this topic.Cryptopia Edit 2: As of February 15 2018, Cryptopia has fixed their node connections. Their backlog is incredibly full and withdrawals are being queued. This may take another few days before your transactions go through.
Where can I buy ZClassic? Currently there are 4 main exchanges that support ZClassic, ranked from ascending order in terms of volume. Bittrex, Cryptopia, Coinexchange.io and TradeSatoshi. Keep in mind as of February 13th, Bittrex is not currently accepting any new registrations. This will hopefully change very shortly.
Why can't we simply pay/donate the team ZCL in return be rewarded BTCP after the fork? By definition, this is illegal. Doing so would make BTCP act as an ICO. Instead donations to the team directly to support us voluntarily without the expectation of BTCP, or contributing to the ZCL mining pool fund is the only way to support the team.
Can Bitcoin Private be mined, if so, could you provide details? Of course! It will be very similar to ZClassic. Bitcoin Private runs on the Equihash PoW algorithm. Because BTCP runs on Equihash, there WILL be ASIC resistance. The privacy algorithm will be run on zk-snarks. Block time will be every 2.5 Minutes (150 Seconds) with a block size of 2MB. Difficulty Adjustments will be made after every block. Replay Protection is also supported. There will be a 21 Million BTCP Supply WITHOUT a pre-mine.
Which pools can we mine Bitcoin Private on? Currently there are no announcements for pool support yet. More news will become available as we get closer to fork date. Most likely, majority of current pools that support mining ZClassic will support mining BTCP. Yet to be confirmed, stay tuned for announcements.
Is the team releasing any video/article tutorials to prepare for the fork? Yes, our content creation team is working hard to produce high quality video/article tutorials to assist users in preparing for the fork. The official BTCP Youtube channel can be found here. This is also where we stream our conferences live. More announcements on this is forthcoming.
What will be the opening price of Bitcoin Private? Just like every other coin (besides tether), the price will depend on the market and what people value it at.

My opinion on the Verge announcement as a Payment system for Pornhub. All Cryptocurrency is very far from this.
Let me say first that I've been following the drama closely and even invested into Verge and Mining it. I heard it all from Exit scams, 50% attack, to bashing on the Devs, to crypto posts. Now let's put that junk behind us and look into a few things. So verge has signed a partnership with Pornhub.com, that's great news for Verge and Crypto in general. However, Crypto, as it stands right now, including Verge it a total mess of a payment system. Now think as a everyday Joe, who wants to buy a Pornhub subscription with Verge, are they going to do all the necessary steps in order to do so? let's go through this Step 1: Download a Wallet Step 2: Get Verge from an Exchange Step 3: Send Verge from exchange to wallet Step 4: Send Verge from wallet to Pornhub Step 5: Wait for confirmation of payment from Pornhub. Now, lets break down these steps. Getting a wallet. Getting a wallet from XVG website is easy enough, however, it comes to a ZIP file with two programs. For the everyday user, an executable going to be far more familiar. Additionally, It took me 6 Days to sync my XVG Windows wallet. that's insane. I can get a Visa card and start using it right away. Now getting into the wallet. jesus What the hell? how do you send or receive? Assuming an average user, they have to watch a tutorial on all this. The Homepage, send, receive, block explorer, back-up wallet(which only gives you a wallet.dat file). How does one back-up a wallet, where does it go, how come I can't just go Back-up and restore from USB or external like windows? So at step one we already lost 90% of people who would want to use Verge or Crypto in general as useful payment system. It's just too complicated. Then let's say they figure all that out and want to buy Verge, what exchange to they go to? Binance? Bittrex? Next we get into how does on even actually buy Verge? There currently is no USD/XVG pair. So far we basically trade for Bitcoin. So if a user wants to use Verge to pay for Pornhub. They have to buy bitcoin at an exchange then trade it assuming for market value. Prices fluctuate so insanely from BTC to XVG was $.11 now its $.07. This is beyond a shadow of a doubt why the idea of "Cryptocurrency" is beyond insane. It's been like this since bitcoin 2009, We cannot have a currency that is treated like a stock or investment which then fluctuates every single second. I understand Fiat currencies do similar for anyone who is invested into an ETF, but my one dollar is worth one dollar today, tomorrow, 5 years from now, 60 years from now. It's stable (Not taking into account Inflationary values). Going into this would be another write-up. Which then leads us to another problem yet to be addressed is TAXES. A person buys Bitcoin then exchanges for Verge. Well, guess what. That's a taxable event according to the newest IRS law. Exchanges are by far the biggest problem. Cryptocurrency need to get away from Exchanges. XVG would have to create/intergrated a payment system in their wallet, where on can buy a certain amount of XVG with USD, similar to how Video games in-game currency works buying weapons/Skins/Characters. Now once they gotten their Verge, trying to Move Verge from wallets/Exchange involves COPY/PASTA. What average joe, who may know very little about computers, wants to potentially lose $20 because they didn't COPY/PASTA correctly? And’s not like those HEX values are easy to remember. I'm no Dev nor hold a CS degree but if they could make a 6-8 Digit number and behind that have that encrypted in HEX values that would be an idea. Now they magically did everything correct and waiting for confirmations. That solely depends on the XVG network what happens if it gets overloaded like Bitcoin did in early 2018? or ETH in 2017 with Cryptokitties? Is this person going to wait 2 days for their Pornhub subscription because it hasn't been confirmed yet? Instant trasaction is something RAIBLOCKs/NANO amoung others is working on, additionally there whole another debate because of PoW like Verge and POS like ETH(wants to become). I'm not hating on Verge, I'm not spreading FUD, this is a problem that all "cryptocurrencies" face. XVG Dev's have work cut out for them to make a more user-friendly wallet and transactions. But there is very little they can do to uncouple from BTC, Taxes, and simplify all that for the everyday users who just wants to watch porn!
"1) I can backup my wallet by exporting a wallet.dat file. Do I have to do this everytime I receive more BBP? Or just whenever I add a new key? 2) How do I add new keys? 3) Can I generate and see the private key so that I can write it down/print it and store it somewhere safe?" -znffal 1) think of your wallet.dat file as your passbook in a passbook savings account. You have to have that .dat file to be able to access (and prove you SHOULD have access) to the BBP stored in your account addresses. Exporting it once is all you need. 2) Adding new keys? The passphrase (password) you use is the only "key" you would have in an encrypted wallet (besides the .dat file). If you mean new addresses, you can get those by going under File and Sending (or Receving) Addresses and hit "new". 3) Clicking Encrypt Wallet will be where you choose a passphase, I don't know you can see it other than when you enter it. To put a real world example or two. Example One: You don't ever encrypt or backup your wallet. If I borrowed/stole/hacked your computer, I could send all your coins to my wallet (no passphrase). Example Two: You encrypt your wallet with the passphrase "secret" but don't backup the wallet.dat file, then your computer crashes and you lose all your data. Since you didn't have a copy of the wallet.dat file, your coins would be lost. Example Three: You backup your wallet.dat but don't encrypt it. Your computer crashes and all your data is lost, but you re-download the QT program, restore your wallet.dat, all your coins are still in you wallet. But if you lose your USB drive that has the wallet.dat on it, and I find it, I can put your wallet.dat on another computer and send all your coins to my wallet. Example Four: You encrypt your wallet and back up the wallet.dat file. If I hack/borrow your computer, unless I guess your passphrase your coins are safe. If you computer crashes, your can restore your wallet.dat file to another computer and your coins are safe. In short, Encrypt your wallet (passpharse) and then backup (copy) the wallet.dat file to at least two locations." -616westwarmoth "Find your wallet.dat file, copy it to a flash drive or any other secure place. If your computer crashes, you'll always have the wallet.dat and can put it on a new machine. It will have to resync a bit when you do, but you'll never lose your "key" to the wallet. Speaking of keys, you should password protect your wallet and make sure to remember it!" "Yes you must have a copy of the wallet.dat somewhere. So multiple back up copies are a good idea. If you lose the wallet.dat file the coins will be in limbo but there will be no way to recreate the file. One thing to remember is it doesn't matter if the wallet.dat file is "current", it can be 10 years old on a flash drive and you can download a new client, put the wallet.dat file into the machine and you'll be good." -616westwarmoth "In addition to this, whenever you reboot the node after more than 24 hours of being synced, we back your wallet.dat up into the "backups" folder. This is useful if you ever accidentally delete your wallet.dat. Also, if you want a paper backup, you can do a 'dumpprivkey accountaddress' command from the RPC." -Rob "wallet is a collection of private keys" "there are other ways to achieve high security. You can make a new wallet, encrypt it with a long password, send coins to it, put it on a flash drive and put it in cold storage, then download the hard drive cleaning program and erase the wallet.dat sectors from your PC. And of course, keep a printed copy of the private key on paper and put it in a safe. Put the usb in the safe also. Burn a cd rom with the wallet.dat file and put it in the safe." -Rob How to safely back up your wallet https://dashpay.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/DOC/pages/1867878/How+to+safely+back+up+your+wallet Keep Your Crypto #SAFU (CZ's Tips) https://www.binance.com/en/blog/421499824684900429/Keep-Your-Crypto-SAFU-CZs-Tips References: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2042657.msg23955128#msg23955128http://forum.biblepay.org/index.php?topic=27.0https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2388064.msg27797529#msg27797529 To Read: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Wallethttps://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Storing_bitcoinshttps://bitcoin.org/en/secure-your-wallet NOTE: As of version 1.4.3.1 we have updated to HD wallets, so you should not need to worry about keypools anymore if you have upgraded "Regarding the Sanctuary, you receive payments always to the same address (key), so the keypool is not consumed for those payments. But when you click to generate a new address on the "Receive" tab, one key will be deducted from the keypool. Also, sometimes new addresses are automatically generated and the keypool is consumed, for example when solo mining and finding a block, a new address could be used for the block reward. You can always check your current keypool size by typing "getwalletinfo" in the RPC console and see "keypoolsize" and "keys_left". It's only concerning if they are a low number and you plan to generate new addresses in your wallet. They start from 1000. If the number gets too low, you can just type "keypoolrefill" to refill them back to 1000 and then you should backup the wallet. But from my experience the wallet automatically refills the keypool from time to time (or after certain actions like transactions), because I see that my wallet file keeps getting larger and the "keys_left" returns to 1000. The only issue is if you actively use your wallet on multiple computers (for example cloud mining or simply sometimes using the wallet on your laptop), then one wallet could refill the keypool with new addresses and the other one will not, or they will generate different new addresses. If I understand this correctly, for example, you could receive a payment on a new address generated in one wallet; your old balance will be there on both wallets, but only the one wallet where you generated the new address would show the new payment. Then you should copy the wallet.dat file to other computers, to update them. If you use the wallet on just one computer, you should just backup the wallet from time to time (or when you see it has increased in size). Qt also backups wallet.dat automatically, those can be found in the folder %AppData%\BiblepayCore\backups, you will see that they also have timestamps in their names and possibly different sizes." -inblue https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2388064.msg27391534#msg27391534
I’ve been seeing a lot of repeated questions being asked every day so an updated FAQ/Megathread to address all of those questions will be detailed here. If we are missing something, please feel free to let us know and we will add it. We will try to edit this posting as more information becomes available. Keep in mind the official BitcoinPrivate Support portal has now been launched.
Announcements will come via posts on Reddit, Discord, TwitteFacebook, Telegram and the official BitcoinPrivate Twitter account which is the primary source of all official announcements.
When is the Hard fork date? The Hard fork will occur 2 days after the snapshot, on March 2nd, 2018.
What will happen to ZClassic after the BitcoinPrivate Fork? ZClassic will continue to be supported by a development team. Nothing will change, business as usual.
Claiming BTCP Coins
How does BitcoinPrivate rewards/claims work? BTCP Coins will be distributed on a 1:1 ratio. Example: (1 ZCL = 1 BTCP.) (1 Bitcoin = 1 BTCP.) (1 ZCL & 0.5 BTC = 1.5 BTCP.) The total combined amount of ZCL and BTC you own at the time of the snapshot will grant you eligibility to claim the same combined amount in BitcoinPrivate.
Users can then take the private key and import it into the BitcoinPrivate Electrum wallet once it is released in order to claim their BTCP coins. The same goes for Bitcoin holders.
Binance strictly forbids teams from disclosing WHEN/DATE they will list on Binance. But they allow teams to announce that they HAVE applied for listing, to ease the urge to talk about it. See the official tweet from the CEO of binance. Please do not spam and repeatedly ask this question. News will come as time passes.
Is the Binance application to list ZClassic or BitcoinPrivate? The application is to list BitcoinPrivate for trading.
When is the BitcoinPrivate wallet being released? Currently the BitcoinPrivate Electrum wallet is being developed and rigorously tested by the team. We expect the BTCP Electrum wallet beta to be released slightly before or slightly after the fork occurs. Stay tuned for news.
What other wallets will support BitcoinPrivate? The BitcoinPrivate Electrum wallet will serve as the “Lite-Client” without having to download the entire blockchain. The team will be working on a GUI version of the BTCP wallet (similar to the java based ZClassic Swing wallet) shortly after the fork. More announcements to come in the future. Coinomi will also support BitcoinPrivate.
Can BitcoinPrivate be mined, if so, could you provide details? Of course! It will be very similar to ZClassic. BitcoinPrivate runs on the Equihash PoW algorithm.
Which pools can we mine BitcoinPrivate on? Currently there are no announcements for pool support yet. More news will become available as we get closer to fork date. Most likely, majority of current pools that support mining ZClassic will support mining BTCP. Yet to be confirmed, stay tuned for announcements.
Is the team releasing any video/article tutorials to prepare for the fork? Yes, our content creation team is working hard to produce high quality video/article tutorials to assist users in preparing for the fork. The official BTCP Youtube channel can be found here. This is also where we stream our conferences live. More announcements on this is forthcoming.
What will be the opening price of BitcoinPrivate? Just like every other coin (besides tether), the price will depend on the market and what people value it at.
